Christmas Fling mandala
Yarn: Kartopu Organica 50g/125m, colors K019, K125
Hook-size: 3 mm
Size: appr. 23 cm when blocked

ch – chain
chsp – chainspace
slst – slipstitch
dc – double crochet
tr – triple crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together

pic – picot; ch3, slst in first ch
bpsc – back post single crochet

BLO – back loops only
puffst – puffstitch; *Yarn over, place hook in indicated st/chsp, bring yarn back through the st, pull up the loop to the height of a regular dc*, repeat *-* until you have 11 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops. Ch1 to close the st (does not count as a st).
Good to know
- First stitch on a row can be made as a standing stitch or with chains as follows; ch1 = 1 sc, ch2 = 1 hdc, ch3 = 1 dc, ch4 = 1 tr.
- Each round ends with a slst in the first st of the round, if not indicated otherwise.
- Instructions between *-* is repeated around, if not indicated otherwise.
Pattern
Begin with white.
Ch6, slst in first ch to make a ring.
1. *1 puffst in the ring, ch4*, repeat *-* 6 times in total. End with a slst in first puffst. Cut the yarn. (6 puffst’s, 6ch4-sp)
2. Change to red, start in a chsp. *5 dc in chsp, 1 fpdc around puffst*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st. (30 dc, 6 fpdc)
3. *5 dc, (1 fpdc, ch2, 1 fpdc) around fpdc from prev round*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st. Cut the yarn. (30 dc, 12 fpdc, 6 ch2-sp)
4. Change to white, start in a chsp. *(1 puffst, ch3, 1 puffst) in chsp, ch8*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first puffst. Cut the yarn. (12 puffst’s, 6 ch8-sp, 6 ch3-sp)
5. Change to red, start in the first dc of 5 on round 3. *dc2tog across two sts, 1 dc in next st, dc2tog across next two sts, ch3, (1 sc, 1 pic, 1 sc) in ch3-sp on round 4, ch3*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first dctog. (12 dctog’s, 6 dc, 6 pic, 12 sc, 12 ch3-sp)
6. *dc3tog across three sts, ch8, 1 sc in the same ch3-sp on round 4 before (sc, pic, sc), 1 sc in the same ch3-sp on round 4 after (sc, pic, sc), ch8*, repeat around. End with a slst in first dctog. (6 dctog’s, 12 sc, 12 ch8-sp)
7. (5 dc, ch2, 5 dc) in each chsp around. End with a slst in first st. Cut the yarn. (120 dc, 12 ch2-sp)
8. Change to white, start in any chsp. *(1 puffst, ch2, 1 puffst) in chsp, ch6, skip 5 dc’s, 1 sc between the 5th and 6th dc, ch6, skip 5 dc’s*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first puffst. Cut the yarn. (24 puffst, 12 sc, 12 ch2-sp, 24 ch6-sp)
9. Change to red, start in first dc of the 5 before a puffst. Crochet in front of the chsp from previous round. *dc2tog across the first two dc’s, 1 dc in next dc, dc2tog across next two dc’s, ch2, (1 sc, 1 pic, 1 sc) in chsp between puffst’s, ch2, dc2tog across next two dc’s, 1 dc in next dc, dc2tog across next two dc’s*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first dctog. Cut the yarn. (24 dctog’s, 12 dc, 24 sc, 12 pic, 24 ch2-sp).
10. Start in the first dc after a pic. *dc4tog across the first two dc’s and the last two dc’s (skip the dc in the middle), ch3, 1 sc in chsp, ch2, skip pic, 1 sc in chsp, ch3*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first dctog. (12 dctog’s, 24 ch3-sp, 12 ch2-sp, 24 scs)
11. Ch1, *1 sc in dctog, 3 sc in ch3-sp, 1 sc in sc, 2 sc in ch2-sp, 1 sc in sc, 3 sc in ch3-sp*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first sc. (132 sc)
12. Ch4, sk 1 st, *1 dc in next st, ch1, sk 1 st*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 4. Cut the yarn. (66 dc, 66 ch1-sp)
13. Change to white, begin in a skipped st on round 11. *1 tr in the skipped st (in front of the chsp on round 12), 1 hdc in dc*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in the 4th ch of beginning 4. Cut the yarn. (66 tr, 66 hdc)
14. Change to red, begin in any tr. Crochet in BLO. *1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch2, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first sc. Cut the yarn. (44 sc, 22 hdc, 22 dc, 22 ch2-sp)
