Yarn: Scheepjes Catona in 2 colors.
Yarn quantity:  2 skeins of each color is enough for a pair of potholders.
Hook-size: 3.0 mm Clover Amour
Size: 26 cm

Color scheme
Color 1 – 261                       Color 2 – 173

Good to know
  • Close each round with a slip stitch in first stitch if nothing else is told.
  • Continue with the same color until a new is given. 
  • First stitch on the round is made as a standing stitch. You can replace it with chain-stitches as follows; ch1 = 1 sc, ch2 = 1 hdc, ch3 = 1 dc.
  • Total number of sts between (-) at the end of the round.
  • Depending on your tension you might need to change the last rounds of the backside from dc to hdc. Just make sure the back is the same size as the front before crocheting them together.

ch-sp – chain-space
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
bpdc – back post double crochet
rep – repeat
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together over given sts/ch-sp’s

pop – popcorn; 5 dc in the same st, remove loop from hook, insert hook from front in first dc, put loop back on hook, pull through, ch1 to close (ch1 does not count as a st).

  5. *1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in ch-sp, ch2, pop in dc2tog, ch1, 1 dc in ch-sp*.

  11. *3 dc in sc, ch1, [1 sc in ch-sp, ch1, skip sc, 4 dc in next ch-sp, ch1, skip sc] rep [-] 3 times, 1 sc in ch-sp, ch1*.

  12. Color 1. Begin around first dc of three in same sc. 
    *3 bpdc, [ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before sc and second dc in ch-sp after sc, ch1, 4 bpdc] rep [-] 3 times, ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before sc and second dc in ch-sp after sc, ch1*.

  13. Color 2. Begin around first dc of three in a “corner”.
    *3 bpdc, [ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before dc2tog on prev round and second dc in ch-sp after dc2tog on prev round, ch1, 4 bpdc] rep [-] 3 times, ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before dc2tog on prev round and second dc in ch-sp after dc2tog on prev round, ch1*.

  14. Color 1. Begin around first bpdc of three in a corner.
    *3 bpdc, [ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before dc2tog on prev round and second dc in ch-sp after dc2tog on prev round, ch1, 4 bpdc] rep [-] 3 times, ch1, dc2tog placing first dc in ch-sp before dc2tog on prev round and second dc in ch-sp after dc2tog on prev round, ch1*.

  15. 1 sc in each st and ch-sp around. (162 sc)

Cut yarn and secure ends. Then crochet the backpiece.

  1. Color 2. 12 dc in a magic ring. (12 dc)
  2. 2 dc in each st. (24 dc)
  3. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st*. (36 dc)
  4. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next two sts*. (48 dc)
  5. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next three sts*. (60 dc)
  6. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next four sts*. (72 dc)
  7. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next five sts*. (84 dc)
  8. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next six sts*. (96 dc)
  9. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next seven sts*. (108 dc)
  10. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next eight sts*. (120 dc)
  11. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next nine sts*. (132 dc)
  12. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next ten sts*. (144 dc)
  13. *2 dc in same st, 1 dc in each of next eleven sts*. (156 dc)
  14. 1 hdc in each st around, increase 6 sts evenly on the reound so you end up with 162 hdc’s.

Cut yarn and secure ends.

Assembly

Place both parts with the backs facing each other. Have the front facing you.
With color 1 begin in any st. Crochet through both pieces.

  1. 1 sc in each st around.
  2. Ch1, *1 sc, ch1, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, ch1, skip 1 st*, rep *-* until last two sts, 1 sc, ch20, 1 sc in next st. (40 groups with 5 dc’s in each)

Secure ends, make another potholder but change the color scheme to the opposite.
