Holly & Casper Halloween ghosts
Yarn: Etrofil Lux Cotton, 1 ball in color 70019, scrapyarn in black and pink
Hook size: 3 mm
Size: appr. 12 cm
Extra: 2 pairs of safetyeyes 5 mm, filling
Abbreviations US
sc – single crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 together across next two stitches (decrease)
BLO – back loops only
dc – double crochet
ch – chain
chsp – chainspace
st/sts – stitch/stitches
slst – slip-stitch
tr – treble crochet
pic – picot; ch3, slst in first ch
Good to know
- The head is crocheted in spiral, without closing the rounds with a slst. Use a piece of scrapyarn in a different color to keep track of beginning/end of the round.
- The body is crocheted in rounds, closing the rounds with a slst in first st.
- Ch3 for beginning dc.
- If you don’t want to use safety-eyes, you can embroider the eyes at the end.
Pattern
Head
1. 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
2. 2 sc in each st around. (12)
3. *1 sc, 2 sc in next st*, repeat *-* around. (18)
4. *2 sc, 2 sc in next st*, repeat *-* around. (24)
5. *3 sc, 2 sc in next st*, repeat *-* around. (30)
6-10. 1 sc in each sta round. (30)
11. Crochet in BLO. *3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. (24)
If you want to use safety-eye it’s time to put in the eyes. Place the eyes on row 8 with 2 sts between.
12. *2 sc, sc2tog*, repeat around. (18)
13. *1 sc, sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. (12)
Fill the head.
14. *sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. (6)
Cut yarn and secure ends.
Body
Time to crochet the ”body”. Use the front loops of round 11. Keep the head upside down, begin in the back of the head.
1. 1 dc in each st around. End with a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 3. (30 dc)
2. Ch4, 1 dc in the same st, skip 1 st, *(1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in next st, skip 1 st*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 4. (30 dc, 15 chsp)
3. Slst in chsp, *(1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in chsp, skip 2 sts*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 4. (30 dc, 15 chsp)
4. Slst in chsp, *(1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in chsp, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in next chsp*, repeat *-* around. End with (1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in last chsp and a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 4. (44 dc, 15 chsp)
5. Slst to and in chsp, *(2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in chsp, (1 dc, ch1, 1 dc) in next chsp*, repeat *-* around. End with (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in last chsp and a slst in 3rd ch of beginning 4. (46 dc, 15 chsp)
6. Slst to and in chsp, continue with *-* on round 4.
7. Slst in chsp, continue with *-* on round 5.
8. 2 sc *(1 sc, pic, 1 sc) in ch2-sp, 3 sc, skip ch1-sp, 3 sc*, repeat*-* around. End with a slst in first st. (62 sc, 8 pic)
Cut yarn and secure ends.
Cut a long thread (appr. 20 cm) white yarn, use the hook to take the yarn under two sts, make a knot on the ends to make a hanging loop for your ghost.
With the black yarn embroider a mouth and eyebrows, on the girl ghost you can make eyelashes instead of eyebrows.
Bow
In a magic ring crochet; *ch4, 3 tr, ch4, slst in the ring*, repeat *-* one more time. Pull the magic ring closed. Cut the yarn, make a double knot at the back of the bow. Use the ends to attach the bow on the head.
