A Pink Dream mittens

Yarn: Scheepjes Stone Washed XL, 3 skeins in color 860 Rose Quartz
Hook size: 5 mm
Size: Adult

Abbreviations US

ch – chain
slst – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
rnd – round
st/sts – stitch/stitches
BLO – back loops only
X-st – crossed double crochet; skip one stitch, double crochet in next stitch, go back and do a double crochet in the skipped stitch
dc – double crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
dc2tog – double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
crabstitch – single crochet to the right instead of the left

Good to know

These mittens are crochet in the round, from the opening to the top.
Close each round with a slst in first st, if nothing else is told.
Ch 3 for the first dc on the round.

Pattern

Ch30. Join with a slst to first ch to form a ring. (You might need to adjust the number of chains to make it fit your hands. This fits the widest part of my hand.)

1. Ch1, continue with 1 sc in each ch around. End with a slst in first sc.
2-5. In BLO. Ch1, continue with 1 sc i each st around. End with a slst in first sc.
6. X-st around. End with a slst in first st.
7. 1 dc in each st around. End with a slst in first st.
8. Ch1, continue with 1 sc in each st around. End with a slst in first sc.

Repeat round 6-8 as many times you need before it’s time for the thumb. I did 3 repeats.

Round 9 is different depending on if it’s the left or right mitten. It’s on this round we create the hole for your thumb, try it on to make sure it fits your hand.

9. LEFT MITTEN. X-st*3, ch6, sk 6 sts, X-st*9. End with a slst in first st.
9. RIGHT MITTEN. X-st*9, ch6, sk 6 sts, X-st*3. End with a slst in first st.

10. 1 dc in each st around. End with a slst in first st.
11. Ch1, continue with 1 sc in each st around. End with a slst in first sc.
12. X-st around. End with a slst in first st.
13. 1 dc in each st around. End with a slst in first st.
14. Ch1, continue with 1 sc in each st around. End with a slst in first sc.
15. X-st around. End with a slst in first st.

Now it’s time to decrease, try it on to make sure you have enough rounds, otherwise repeat round 10-12 one more time.

16. *dc2tog, 3 dc*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.
17. *10 sc, sc2 tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.
18. *5 sc, sc2tog*, repeat *-* 3 times, 1 sc. End with a slst in first st.
19. *4 sc, sc2tog*, repeat *-* 3 times, 1 sc. End with a slst in first st.
20. Ch1, continue with 1 sc in each st around. End with a slst in first sc.
21. *Sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.
22. *Sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.

Cut the yarn, leave a long end to close the top of the mitten.

Thumbs
Begin on the palm side of the mitten. I started where the chain meets the mitten.

1. 18 sc around the hole for the thumb. End with a slst in first st.

There is a slight difference on the second round of the thumbs, to make them fit better.

2. LEFT THUMB. 5 sc, sc2tog, sc2tog, 5 sc, sc2tog, sc2tog. End with a slst in first st.
2. RIGHT THUMB. Sc2tog, sc2tog, 5 sc, sc2tog, sc2tog, 5 sc. End with a slst in first st.

3-9. 14 sc. End with a slst in first st.
10. *5 sc, sc2 tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.
11. *3 sc, sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.
12. *sc2tog*, repeat *-* around. End with a slst in first st.

Cut the yarn, leave an end to close the top of the thumb.
Crochet one round of crabstitch around the opening for the finishing touch.
